We offer a service for Windows computers called Annual Tune-up, which looks
at all the security, maintenance, and other critical Windows
issues below.
With this service we diagnose your computer for these issues,
then help with the installation, configuration, training, and performing of
these tasks as needed. We help you understand and practice
these on a regular basis as a preventative measure to
avoid bigger, nastier issues later on.
We recommend that everyone perform this Tune-up on an annual basis
as an excellent means to keep their computer happy and healthy.
The price for this service is based purely on time spent (currently $50/hour). In
most cases it should take about 30 minutes to diagnose everything. (If any installation,
configuration, training, and performing of these tasks is required, that will take
additional time.)
Annual Tune-up
Antivirus -- Is an effective antivirus solution installed? Does it offer
real-time protection continually monitoring your system, continually updating itself,
and regularly scanning your entire computer?
Antispyware - Do you have one good antispyware program that provides
real-time protection, regularly updates itself, and scans your entire computer? Do
you have two or more supplemental antispyware programs that you update and scan with
regularly to detect and remove all the spyware the main program WILL miss?
Firewall -- Do you have at least a one-way firewall (like that built-in to
Windows), if not a much better two-way firewall, installed and running?
Junk Mail Filter - Do you have an effective junk mail (SPAM) filter solution,
one that catches at least 90% of your junk email?
Windows and Browsers - Are you maintaining your Windows software and Web browsers
up to their latest versions?
Registry - Are you maintaining the Windows Registry on a regular basis with
a effective registry tune-up tool?
Remove Software - Are you removing all the software you never use and/or no longer
need?
Error Checking and Disk Defragmenter -- Are you running the built-in Error
Checking (disk repair) and Disk Defragmenter (file optimization) tools on a regular
basis?
Back-up -- The most important safety feature of all -- are you regularly making
copies of all your important data: documents, financial records, photos, music, movies,
email, email addresses, favorites, projects, and more?
Electrical Protection -- Are you doing all that's necessary to protect your
equipment and your data in case of power problems or lightning?
RAM -- Based on the age of your computer, the Windows version, and the software
you normally run, do you have enough RAM? Having too little is a major factor for
slow Windows machines. Windows XP should have 1000 mB (1 gB) and Vista at least 2000
mB (2 gB).
Disk Space -- Easy to fill up these days with music, videos, and photos. If
your disk space is approaching 85% full, you're slowing your machine down just by
having too much on the hard drive.
Clean-up -- Are you doing all you can to remove unneeded and unwanted files
and other gunk on your computer?
